About balayage
What is balayage?
Balayage is a colouring technique where the colour or lightener is painted onto the hair by hand, rather than placed in foils in a regular pattern. It’s placed where light would naturally catch your hair, so it melts softly into your roots without a hard line.
Because your roots stay close to your natural shade, balayage tends to grow out gently. That makes it a popular choice if you’d like brighter, sun-kissed colour without a sharp regrowth line.
Who does balayage suit?
Balayage works well on mid-length and longer hair, where there’s room for the colour to blend from root to end. It suits brunettes who’d like warmer caramel or golden tones as well as blondes who want a softer, brighter finish. If you’d prefer more even, all-over brightness, half or full head highlights may suit you better.
Balayage or highlights?
- Balayage: hand-painted and blended, for a soft, lived-in result. Allow about 4 hours. From £120.
- Half head highlights: lighter pieces placed through part of the hair, finished with a toner. About 2 hours 45 minutes, from £60.
- Full head highlights: highlights through the whole head, finished with a toner. About 3 hours 30 minutes, from £75.
A toner is a colour applied after lightening to fine-tune the shade, for example softening yellow or brassy tones. It’s included in both highlights services.
How your appointment works
- Patch test. This is needed at least 48 hours before any colour service. If you haven’t had one with me before, call 07804 578775 before booking.
- Book on Fresha. Pick balayage or highlights and a time that suits you. Your confirmation includes the studio address.
- Your appointment. We’ll talk through the look you’d like before I start, and I’ll explain each step as we go.
- Aftercare. Before you leave, I’ll talk you through how to look after your colour at home.

I’ve been hairdressing since 2007 and hold a Level 3 qualification in hairdressing. Colour and highlights are among the things I specialise in, and I use only organic and vegan products. You’ll find all my colour services, including full colour and re-colouring, on my hair colour page.
Where to find me
The studio is in Old Fletton, Peterborough, and it’s appointments only, Thursday to Sunday, 8:30am–6pm. Your Fresha booking confirmation includes the address, and Fresha sends reminders before your appointment. Parking is available, it’s near public transport, and the studio is wheelchair accessible.

How much does balayage cost?

What’s the difference between balayage and highlights?
Balayage is painted on by hand for a soft, blended finish that grows out gently. Highlights are placed in sections through the hair for more even brightness, and mine include a toner to fine-tune the shade.
Are highlights toned?
Yes. Toner is included in both half head and full head highlights.

What products do you use?
I use only organic and vegan products.
Is there a discount if I bring a friend?
Yes. You both get 20% off any colour service when you both book. There’s no discount without a friend.
Where is the studio?
The studio is in Old Fletton, Peterborough. It’s a private studio in my home, so it’s appointments only. Your Fresha booking confirmation includes the address. Parking is available, it’s near public transport, and it’s wheelchair accessible.
How do I book?
Book online through Fresha (opens in a new tab) or in the free Fresha app, up to 5 months ahead. You’ll get a confirmation from Fresha, and it includes the studio address.
What if I need to cancel or rearrange?
You can cancel or reschedule free of charge up to 48 hours before your appointment. Cancellations within 48 hours are charged 50% of the service price, and no-shows are charged in full.
